(can't stand those types of movies)

I think I just like how Johns is using DC history to his advantage here throughout the book instead of retro-inserting a bunch of stuff to make it work. The artwork is beautiful. I like it!Jeffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16030557639473109093noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6392489189136721402.post-88060552867036529742009-07-21T04:56:27.156+01:002009-07-21T04:56:27.156+01:00Mart, I take my hat off to you that you're alw...Mart, I take my hat off to you that you're always so keen to see a chirpy side to everything...

But good grief! This sounds appalling!!!

I havent read the issue but why not kill the Hawks last year and save them to get them killed off here?!?!

Talk about shoddy!

I haven't blogged myself for ages. I've been a bit busy but stuff like this makes me feel a bit old for this business!And-Ruhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17477156728610469053noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6392489189136721402.post-82902172304730068172009-07-19T22:05:20.224+01:002009-07-19T22:05:20.224+01:00I'd vowed to boycott DC except for WW, Secret ...I'd vowed to boycott DC except for WW, Secret Six, and Power Girl (okay, and the taking-forever L3W), but I couldn't resist checking this out.

I couldn't help thinking, many times, that George Perez already did this in War of the Gods #4, albeit it was Circe/Hecate who opened the doors of Hades, and lotsa deadies tormented the heroes.

But anyway, I'm still iffy about this. DC has disappointed a lot in the last few years, with its complete desire to devolve to the 70's while at the same time go the route of shock and schlock.

I do hope that we at least get the Thanagarian Hawks out of this in the end. If only for that, there should hopefully be a bright side, no pun intended.

- Allan / BarraultAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6392489189136721402.post-24585939686942414722009-07-19T12:27:08.473+01:002009-07-19T12:27:08.473+01:00I've had enough of grisy and death in the DCU....I've had enough of grisy and death in the DCU. I'll be skipping this except for the Donna Troy and WW parts. WW has enough zombies within its pages as it is, including double-zombie Achilles. (Whom Gail claims is not a zombie, but won't supply us with a definition of why that might be.)

I really don't want to support this kind of attitude.Carol A. Or is it writer Geoff
> Johns, not wishing to bring up a
> rather unpalatable time in Carol's
> life?

The latter becomes the former. It's too big an "overgloss" to be an accident on Hal's part.

Though denial isn't the only interpretation. While it does have to be in chararacter, it could be that Hal doesn't see the need to specify it was Carol when recounting the story, if Carol isn't currently evil. If this was simply Hal recounting it in his own mind, then, yes, definitely denial. Or memory modification.Blue Lightninghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12831241228091213847noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6392489189136721402.post-45601965801993258812009-07-17T19:28:29.540+01:002009-07-17T19:28:29.540+01:00This comment has been removed by the author.Blue Lightninghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12831241228091213847noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6392489189136721402.post-50129613520212148262009-07-17T18:18:17.723+01:002009-07-17T18:18:17.723+01:00As I said in my review, I'm siding with Black ...As I said in my review, I'm siding with Black Hand now, since all my favorites are dead anyway! At a certain point, I had to stop letting myself get upset at all my faves getting killed and now I'll just go along for the ride.

Say what you will about the gore, it's well done horror. Reis' work looks great and I can only assume Johns is trying to unnerve us with the gross-factor.
