When they first appeared, playing headgames with Superboy (well, he did it enough to everyone else), we didn't need an origin. They were impressive future kids, that's all we needed.Martin Grayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09574149543260175962noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6392489189136721402.post-70784893089693855762010-07-19T21:45:41.986+01:002010-07-19T21:45:41.986+01:00I agree about the Legion's origin. I guess it's a necessary evil to see it every now and then, but I'd *much* rather it be a two-pager like those that ran in the back of 52. This is the first time we've seen it from Brande's POV, if I recall, but given that he's dead, it doesn't add a whole lot worth acting upon at this point.

And unlike you, I thought Brande *did* already have a personality. Granted, Levitz says he lifted it from Heinlein novels (which by no lights are the apex of characterization), but his old speech patter was fairly distinctive, by damn! At least around all the young'uns.Rob S.https://www.blogger.com/profile/07331286524477806963noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6392489189136721402.post-38699554545504617982010-07-18T12:46:54.396+01:002010-07-18T12:46:54.396+01:00It's funny how it's often the little comme...It's funny how it's often the little comments in my favourite blogs that make me clip my own forehead & exhale with a "Of course! Yes!". It may not be world-changing for anyone else, or even me actually, but you're so right to say that "the 'three teens on a spaceship save the life of one of the galaxy's richest men' has never been a thriller". In fact, it's an AWFUL origin & looking back, I've never been engaged by any one of the many takes on it. It points to a real problem the Legion has, which is that its own history is at the same time very complex & yet the details of it are often quite uninteresting.

And though Brande possibly being mummy as well as daddy to Cham is a diverting idea, it's somewhat wasted on yet another tilt at the unimpressive windmill of an origin. I really don't understand why this is being done, to be honest; I'd rather actually read an adventure by your Exposition Lass. For the Legion's story is simple; these are Kal's boyhood chums from a benign science-fiction future. Johns got that, or at least until the benign part, but now all the same mistakes as before are being made again. Continuity, continuity, and pretty soon we might not have a Legion at all again.Colin Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15246781681702128600noreply@blogger.com
