There have been times when I've dropped off Superman runs - Loeb, Azzarello, for two - but eventually things get better. I'm really curious to see what Andy Diggle does with Action Comics, especially given that we' re getting new/old editor Eddie Berganza back. Mxy and the old Silver Age concepts came back quickly enough after the Crisis, so I'm easy with the same thing happening here - not to mention the Golden Age stuff, such as Susie Tomkins. It looks like it's gonna be good and Superman looks like he's really gonna be looking out for Superboy. I guess I fall into ...Thanks for the review Martin! I guess I fall into the category of 'new Superman reader' only because I grew up with a few odd and ends books from the Curt Swan era. Most of the bulk of my Superman reading has been when Byrne came along. I miss most of the silver age stuff Morrison refers too unless it's obvious. I'm pretty sure all his nods and winks for this run have lost any new readers as he's lost me as well.

I have grown to really dislike Morrisions convoluted writing style, and find he goes through unnecessary lengths to tell a story I've already read but in a very disjointed and cryptic way that makes me not appreciate it. Though, I really like Sholly Fisch's approach in a lot of the back-up stories.

Yet, everybody is raving about this action comics run. I've dropped and picked up this title twice already. I'm currently not buying it because the last few issues with the comet man arc left a bad taste in my mouth (again). I'm curious to see how this ends after reading your review. Though another side of me actually can't wait for Morrison to leave the book!

Keep the reviews coming! Maybe you'll steer me back! It suffers from the same "shove everything the reboot erased back in as fast as we can" problem, but does it so well. The only downside is that I think we'll never actually see new stories where Superman makes the imp say his name backwards, and I was fond of those.Macnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6392489189136721402.post-28379803006989706952012-12-07T15:56:10.781+00:002012-12-07T15:56:10.781+00:00A very strong issue, agreed. I also think that the 'toast' panel is so conspicuous in it's composition/negative space/coloring that there is more there than meets the eye.

And while there was a lot of exposition, I didn't mind it here. Sometimes Morrison's stories end in an inscrutable way. At least I understand motivations, etc.

And Comet! The Wanderers!
