Like Allan (above), I didn't find Hickman's characterisation of Reed rang true. I also found Hickman has a habit of treading water all issue until some "exciting cliff-hanger reveal"... that he doesn't resolve in the subsequent issue. Your review suggests that's still the case (indeed, literally treading water in the case of this issue!).

You may notice that the book's being pushed really heavily both through in-house previews and 'net interviews... rumour has it it's hemorrhaging readers just now.

A shame - I love the FF, and Dale Eaglesham is doing the work of his career here, but this book just doesn't "feel" right.

Highly recommend catching up with Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's overlooked "Marvel Knights (Fantastic) 4" from a few years back, if you missed it. RAS nailed the FF perfectly every issue, I'd love to see him back on the book.

(PS - sorry, I deleted my prev comment... it was the same but with a typo!)KlownKrustyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02951875989078181671noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6392489189136721402.post-32754544351530400182010-03-02T17:47:47.021+00:002010-03-02T17:47:47.021+00:00This comment has been removed by the author.KlownKrustyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02951875989078181671noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6392489189136721402.post-91805366599086702002010-03-02T09:50:02.565+00:002010-03-02T09:50:02.565+00:00Thanks Anon! And I really dislike the current characterisation of Reed. Sure he was always rather high-minded, but he was never quite as aloof as he's portrayed these days. He's a few steps away from Doctor Manhattan!Allanhttp://www.thefifthbranch.com/gorilladazenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6392489189136721402.post-70607351431429827192010-03-01T15:36:48.305+00:002010-03-01T15:36:48.305+00:00One of the best reviews I've read in a while. ...One of the best reviews I've read in a while. You really nailed it! The whole time I was reading the silent scene, I was thinking "but couldn't they show captions or words balloons??". Thankfully the art was masterful and a feast for the eyes!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6392489189136721402.post-13095313349037753022010-03-01T14:59:35.181+00:002010-03-01T14:59:35.181+00:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Tomjayhttp://www.yourmobilead.comnoreply@blogger.com
